About Benitses
Benitses is a picturesque village situated only 12 km south of Corfu Town, almost in the middle of Corfu island. Benitses because of its geographical location can be caracterised as a unique base from which you can easily explore the rest of the island.
The mild climate and the natural beauty of the village had already attracted a lot of tourists from the beginning of the century. Recent archaeological excavations have brought to light the ruins of an old Roman villa and thermal baths still in good condition are evidence of the past importance of the village
Main occupation of the inhabitants was fishing. the cultivation of citrus crops, as the location was full of citrus trees, olive-oil production and in the operation of water mills on the mountainous part of the village.
Benitses retains more traditional village architecture than many other Corfu resorts. Benitses has whitewashed houses decked in flowers and there are still local Benitses fishermen working from the pedestrianised harbour.
The beaches at Benitses are a mixture of sand, shingle and pebbles and are always well maintained, holding the European Blue Flag status for cleanliness
Benitses has some excellent tavernas and restaurants serving traditional food as well as a range of international cuisine. Fish, caught daily, features prominently on menus.
In Benitses you can also find Supermarkets, Doctors, Pharmacy, Surgery, Tourist offices, Car/Bike hire, Water sports.The village's location makes it an ideal place for enjoyable and relaxing holidays.
Although Benitses nightlife has changed over the years and it is no longer the party capital of Corfu, there are still some lively bars as well as a nightclub. Those wishing for a greater variety of venues can take a short taxi ride to Corfu town.
